This year was my second year photographing the Loftis family (I love repeat clients!). One thing I have loved about their family sessions is how eager they are to capture their boys’ personalities as they are at this point in their lives. We parents know how fleeting our kids’ interests, hobbies and favorites can be. (Not to mention how fast they grow and how much their little personalities change!) So when Mom and I started planning this year’s session, she didn’t skip a beat in telling me how much her boys loved super heroes and wearing their costumes. Well, that was all it took. The seed was planted! It was a no-brainer!
First, I spent some time with the whole family. (Moms, this is where I remind you how important it is you get in the frame too! When your kids are older they’ll thank you). We had fun being silly and laughing, but the kids were ready for the next part of our time together. The real fun came when the costumes went on. We took these tiny super heroes out for a mission, and they got to protect the town of Roanoke from the bad guys. It’s tough work being a super hero, but someone’s got to do it!
Family photos don’t have to be stiff and posed, y’all! The entire purpose (from this photographer’s point of view) is to capture your family as you are…capes and all.
